Scripture, Theology and Christian life in the modern world
Everyone becomes a confused catholic at one point or another. In 2025, after decades away from the Church, I returned. Before returning, I did what many of us do and began to look stuff up on the internet -- what a time to be alive!
At that point, I typed in confused catholic into a search engine. The results were mainly some letter
I'd never heard of.
As time went on, I learned that this letter was a little more important and upsetting than I had initially gleaned. It's called: "An open letter to confused Catholics." Its author is none other than deceased SSPX Bishop, Marcel Lefebvre This man is the architect of the schismatic traditionalism we see in Catholicism today.
As writer, I occasionally check SEO (search engine optimization) rankings for certain terms. For an entire year, Lefebvre's letter still continued to show up at the number one rank. I find this highly troubling. I've already been writing about my faith for quite some time -- and I write technical, SEO content and thought leadership by trade. The goal of this site is pretty simple. When a lapsed and confused Catholic explores their faith online, I want them to find something positive. We don't need more Lefebvre, he's done enough damage. We need resources.
Protestants talk about Sola Scriptura, that Scripture alone is the only authority in religion. Personally, I don't believe in Sola Scriptura -- I am a Catholic after all. However, I do believe that Aperta Scriptura (open Scripture) -- is something the world desperately needs.
